The Black Hawk Police Department is the largest Police Department in Gilpin County with 38 full time police employees. Our members provide 24-hour law enforcement services while answering over 5,900 police calls for service a year. The Black Hawk Police Department is located in a historic schoolhouse built in 1870 and modernized in the 1990’s to support our rapid growth. We attract and retain professional employees who are committed to providing great service to our citizens and guests. We are proud of our City’s heritage and our role in making Black Hawk an enjoyable place to live, work and visit. Community policing is not an abstract concept in the Black Hawk Police Department but is truly practiced everyday by our employees.
