The New Castle County Department of Public Safety, Division of Police is preparing to implement the Volunteers in Policing (VIP) Program, which will complement and support our existing sworn personnel. The program will encompass multiple tiers of responsibilities that will offer a variety of essential, but non-confrontational services. There are three detailed tiers with specific responsibilities. Tier 1- Administrative functions, which can include answering telephones, data entry and answering citizen inquiries at the (PIC) Public Information Center. Tier 2- Specialized assignments, which can include collecting statistical crime data, conduct research analysis and inventory control in Supply and Evidence. Lastly, Tier 3- Field duty, which can include community policing events and citizens on patrol. These tiers will be explained in detail at orientation.
